OUR STORY

Cameo Appearances opened in the East Village of New York City in 1994. It was the collaboration of auctioneer Buster (Herb) Atkins and photographer Lynne Burns. Cameo Appearances sold retro furniture, antiques, kitsch, housewares and— some really good art. The artists were a diverse group from New York and Cape Cod. Everyone loved the art.

The store and gallery had three shows a year. The Elvis show brought the most publicity, but it was the New York, New York show that sold out! Cameo Appearances closed on December 31, 1999 so that Lynne and Herb could give their auctions in New Jersey their full attention. Now that Concepts 1 Auctions has come into its own, it is time to turn back to Cameo Appearances.

We combine the virtual and the real on CameoAppearances.com. Meet the artists in informal video interviews. Take a virtual tour of their studios and look at examples of their work online. If you are going to be on Cape Cod or in New Haven or New York City, we will be happy to make an appointment for you to view the art in person.

The next step is to email or call us.

Please give us your time-frame and we will make the arrangements.

If you are going to be on Cape Cod this summer, you can tour Tom O’Connell’s Sculpture Garden. You can peruse the art in the drawing room of Bill Evaul’s Bed and Breakfast. Sundays feature an absinthe tasting. You can tour Susan Baker’s Memorial Museum or visit Brian Gill Wendler’s studio in New Haven. He is a regular participant in their art and studio walks. If you are going to be in New York City, you can arrange a visit to Arnie Charnick’s studio—the scene of his famous 1980s parties that were always sold out by opening night.

There is also art for sale at the auctions in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Auctions are held on the second and last Saturdays of the month at 9:30 AM. The last Saturday of the month also features fine art pieces at 12:00 noon. Check it out at www.concepts1auction.com.

This is a great way to buy good and still affordable art. We show undervalued artists whose work you will love. Some are living. Some are not. But now is the time to buy. By mentioning this website, we will give you a 10% discount on your first art purchase. Call or email us today!
