Cameo Appearances opened in December, 1994 in the heart of the East Village of New York City. It was the collaboration of 2 partners, Lynne Burns and Herb Atkins. Herb was in the auction business and Lynne was a freelance photographer. She wanted a larger apartment where they could live together; he wanted a clubhouse to hang out with friends. Instead, Cameo Appearances was born.

The focus was affordable, apartment size furniture and housewares of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. And they mixed art with retail. Lynne had roots on Cape Cod and knew many good artists. She decided to have 3 exhibits a year. The first opened in September, 1996 and was appropriately named:

From The First Resort - Provincetown, Massachusetts

To The Last Resort - the East Village, NYC

Their Elvis show brought them a lot of good publicity. 5 years and 9 shows later, they presented a final exhibit:

The Last Dance

There were pieces from all the artists who had shown at Cameo for the last 5 years. The lease was over and it was time for a change. The furniture went to Herb's live auction on the Jersey shore. For directions, schedules and to see what's available, please go to: www.concepts1auction.com
